From shampoo adverts to washing up liquid commercials, we have all been fooled for years as to what ‘clean’ really looks like. As it turns out, most of us are totally misinformed and associate lots of foam and lather with cleanliness, when in fact the amount of bubbles has no relationship to the quality of a product.
So, where do those tv-worthy lathery bubbles come from? Sulphates, which are most commonly used as a foaming agent in the majority of soaps and shampoos on the market (both human and dog products) to create foamy bubbles.
The most common sulphate found in shampoo is Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS), however this chemical is also used to remove grease and oil from engines and floors. So, if it is capable of stripping engines, can you imagine what it does to you and your dog’s skin and hair!? Well, sulphates can penetrate through the skin and remove the skin’s natural oils, which can lead to dryness, damage skin cells and enhance allergic reactions such as eczema and psoriasis. So, if you or your dog have sensitive skin, are prone to allergies or just want to take extra special care of your skin you should consider moving to sulphate free products.
Angela with Dougal the Poodle.
Those of you who have already met Angela, the founder of Paw Naturel, will know that this was a key factor when creating the products. Angela has always suffered with eczema and during her time as a dog groomer found it extremely harrowing on her skin, and in particular her hands. On top of this she noticed an increase in the number of doggy clients that were also experiencing skin problems, something that Angela could totally relate to… And so, after much careful product development, Paw Naturel was born.
“I developed Paw Naturel products to provide dog owners and dog groomers alike with the most natural effective treatments possible that are kind to paws and hands!”

Don’t be fooled by the bubble myth any longer! Remember that although sulphate free shampoos don’t foam and lather quite like traditional sulphate-based shampoos, you can rest assured knowing that they are doing their job and cleaning just as well, but without drying out the coat and skin or causing irritation.
